Week one and weekend 1 in South Africa

Posted on 27 Jul 2008 at 19:28

Well its been week/end one here in South Africa and its been tiring i'll give it that. I will try to add as many pictures on here as possible but take far too long to upload onto here. Having a great time with the children most of this week has been using the video camera but will be getting more pictures of the children as time goes by!! This weekend has been good went to the Drakensburg Mountains, left at 6am yesterday and went for a day trip to sani pass (across a border into the Sani Pass country and so needed my passport). Then went to the highest pub in Africa!! it was lovely very cold though, -3 degrees!! Then stayed in a Backpackers accommodation which was freezing. went hiking for 3 hours at 7.30 am, which i did not like!! im so clumsy footed and probably moaned the whole way!! an experience never to be done again unless im dragged!! haha. then went for a 2hour horse trail! which was so much fun! I rode 2 horses one called beauty and one which didnt have a name! they were both lovely. When we stopped off though at the top of the mountain, the second horse i rode or shall i say pony ran off!! not funny!!
the children are lovely here and really do have horrid backgrounds that nobody could believe, but as sweet as they are they can be tiring and a handful, but i give my respect to Glynnis and her husband who run it and those who are here everyday to help with everything as i now know it is never easy! but im truely gteatful to be taking part in such an experience and im looking forward to the next 6 and a bit weeks here. Being away from the children this weekend was actually quite a bum, as they keep everything happy! just their little faces and the way they are. The youngest is Isiaiah and he is 10months old and the eldest is Wendy who is 19 years old.
It very nice here though and for winter it is very warm. it's probably not as hot as in UK!! haha, typical!
Much love to everyone though and hope you like the pictures ive added!! Keep in touch and love to all. Love you's xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
P.s. Thank you grandma and grandad miss u too. Hope you have a good time away if you go! love to you both!!
Maybve have to add some more pictures tomorrow as taking so so so long!!

Wish I was there......those little children look gorgeous, hard to believe people could be so cruel to them still they have you and the others there to care for them. It looks a beautiful place but make the most of your time there, it'll be over before you know it. Hope this message finds you well and happy. Love you. Mum, dad n george xxxxx

02 Aug 2008 at 13:17 Well hope you get this, the antispam was not on when I tried last so at least it all makes sense now, otherwise-back to face book! your photod look great and we are looking forward to the next batch of your trip. Lewis is home this weekend, needed a green fix(said all he was seeing lately was concrete)- well we have had plenty of rain so he certainly will see plentyof green!! Next weekend he is in the London Triathlon so we are up to cheer him on, will let you know how he performs. Kathryn hopes to join us but today the radiator blew on her car so.....another LITTLE problem! Talk about these things are sent to try us. See mum and dad had a problem getting away, tried to ring, will text next but hope they managed something. Take care. Lots of love AJ, Uncle Stephen, K and L. xxxxx
